Stereoview Photograph Cards x 20 from 1880 – Mostly Victorian

20 August 2010

I’m going to offer through here first 21 stereoview photographic cards, they date from the 1880s onwards, the details as follows:

Stereoview photographs

Three cards of Buxten, the Waterfall near the lovers leap, Ashford Dale, Waterfall and second rustic bridge on the Serpentine Walks and view in the serpentine walks – the cards are numbered 159, 161 and 165, they are on yellow card, the surface slightly soiled but does not detract from the photo.

One of Kelso Bridge on the Tweed looking down the river, has no. 61 on the back and HB.

One pretty odd one for a subject, it looks under a bridge the river is full of rubbish, it’s near Chorley Lancashire.

One of someone looking across the Rothay with a stately home and Wansfell in the distance, right photo has a small tear at the top, no. 63 on the back HB.

One of the entrance to Raglan castle with two children and a gent under the arch, right hand card has some paper stuck on the bottom, could be removed.

Two of Goodrich castle, these old cards show the castle in a bit of a state, one has a wheelbarrow, the other two one reading the other sewing, no.s 18 and 19, HB.

One sepia coloured of dungeon Ghyll lake district by Ogle edge photographers, no.22, HB.

One of what looks like the cross of Maudach Ireland.

One of the Bridge and Castle Heidelberg, Rhineland.

Burghley ParkStamford, This is a prize winners photograph published by W. Woodward Photographic Chemist Nottingham dated 1859, presented by G. Shadbolt.

Three semi religious cards, one called ‘to late’ the other ‘Devotion’ the girl with the long hair sits next to a skull, she’s pretty cute to say the least. Photo called A study for – -”Some bonny English Rose”

One early but sepia coloured card of Perspective view of the cortile Chartreuse, Pavia. Nice condition.

Stereoview of “The Bridges from Conway Castle, North Wales.

Finally one called Good for a cold, looks good to me!

That’s it some really unusual subjects, all the cards are in reasonable condition, some have surface stains but nothing that detracts from the photo.

I’m not really looking to sell these yet but if someone wants to make a sensible offer I will then consider selling.

Vintage Black 312L Bakelite Telephone GEC Braided Cord

15 August 2010

I’ve listed on eBay something a bit different than the usual collectible items, it’s an old antique 1930/40s telephone. The telephone is black with the old braided cord, made by G.E.C. in bakelite and the model number is 312L
It’s in amazingly good condition considering it’s had so much usage as can be seen by the smoothness of the dial, and also it was in a call exchange. The black bakelite material is pretty strong but I expect would crack with sufficient inpact, this one is good, no damage, no cracks, and the colour is fine.
The phone has been tampered with as someone has attempted to convert to todays systems, but it does not work and I’m not going to try and make it work, would rather leave that to someone who is into these vintage telephones.  The internal working looks clean and all present including a wiring diagram, it also has a double bell.
I’ve listed on eBay starting at  1p, already bid on but it has a few days to go, if interested click on the description on in the right hand column to take you to the listing in eBay and then bid away.

Take a look at these other vintage telephones listed on eBay,  some not as good as mine but good restoration projects:

Beswick Dusty Mole and Animaland Character’s by David Hand’s

7 August 2010

In my previous post I’m offering a Beswick dusty mole from the Animaland series developed by David Hand’s, so I’ve researched a little to give a bit of background to why they these characters appeared at the time and why they never really took of.
First there was eights characters  they are Felia, Dusty Mole, Oscar Ostrich, Ginger Nutt, Hazel Nutt, Dinkum Platypus, Loopy Hare and finally Zimmy Lion. They were meant to be Britain’s answer to Mickey mouse and Donald Duck, but unfortunately they never caught the British imagination.
David Hand’s specifically came to England at the behest of  Rank Film organistion to set up an animation studio, he was certainly the right person having worked for Disney for 14 years animating and being supervising director for such famous cartoons as snow white and the 7 dwarfs, Mickey mouse and Bambi in 1942.
But after all the development and creation of the characters and the cartoons were ready for the public in 1948, the Animaland cartoons and The lion and the House Cat, were criticised for their reliance on a narrator and their similarity to Disney. Also critics agreed  they lacked the sense of fun and madcap energy of the Disney characters. New characters like the introduction of Dusty mole and Ginger Nutt and his girlfriend Hazel helped to improve the Animal Series . But David Hand’s animators brought in from the States did not have the time to realise  their full potential as by 1949 Rank Film Organisation was facing serious financial problems.
In 1949 the Animaland characters were made into  eight ceramic figures by Beswick, but by the time these came to market in the 1950s the Gaumont British Animation studio had been closed down and David Hand’s had returned to the USA. So Ranks attempt at creating a British animation industry to rival Disney had failed.
The Beswick  Animaland figures continued to be produced until 1955, but they proved to not be very popular, and low numbers were sold.  Ironically, they are now highly sought after of all the cartoon characters, maybe a new Britsh cartoon industry could be created and these wonderful characters reborn.
Please see my previous post if you are interested in buying Beswick’s Dusty Mole, only asking £220 for a piece of cartoon history.
