Waltham Silver Pocket Watch Works HM 1887 Wm. Ellery

I’m offering for auction a Waltham Silver cased pocket watch, the case is dated 1887 made by Waltham Watch Co, UK (Alfred Bedford), Bedford was the manager of Waltham Watch Co, Holborn Circus, London.
The enamel face is in good condition, with just a faint hairline crack at 10 o’clock and a very small piece out of the second hand dial at between 25-30 seconds on the very outer rim, hard to see. The face is not named, the crystal is in reasonable condition with just a few surface scratches.

The loop is worn at the top from I expect when attached to the albert, the reverse is clean with no dents, and the cartouche is blank.
The inside cover has the hallmarks dating the case to 1887, also the makers mark A.B and the reference no. 595, the outer dust cover has the engraving Joseph Murgatroyd 1893, expect lived around Halifax West Yorkshire.
The inner cover has the hallmarks again and the reference 595. The movement has inscribed AM. Watch Co. Martyn Sq. Waltham Mass, also Pat. Pinion and the serial no. 2033503, details relating to this serial number are below, it would appear only 500 was made of this particular model.
The watch goes well and keeps reasonable time, it’s a heavy watch at 161gms, measures 5.4cm in diameter and 1.8cm wide.

A solid silver pencil holder with retraction ring, it is hallmarked Birmingham 1899 and made by Thomas Henry Vale.
The barrel has been machine decorated, the end ring revolves, this could be intended to attach to a chatalain. The pencil holder measures 6cm and weighs 3.5gms, it’s in excellent condition with no damage.

Six silver hallmarked coffee spoons dated Birmingham 1930 made by Hukin & Heath Ltd. The spoons are all hallmarked on the bowl, they measure 9.5cm and each weigh 7gms.
The spoons are in excellent condition with minimal wear, they come cased.

The below silver needle case have  been listed on ebay, please look at my right hand column to find this item, click the entry to go to eBay to bid, starts at just 99p.A lovely small pin or needle case, maybe even held a pencil, it’s silver dated Checter 1916 and made by Villiers & Jackson. The case is beautifully scrolled with an empty cartouche, it does have some dents on the hook end. The case measures 7.5cm x 1cm, has hallmarks on the lip of the lid and the body of the case.

A quality solid silver vesta case with hook attachment, the case is dated Birmingham 1906 and made by William Henry Sparrow. The vesta case has a sprung lid that operates perfectly, as you can see it is very nicely decorated front and back, the front has a cartouche with the name H. Cope. The size is just 3.7cm x 2.0cm and depth 0.9cm and weighs 16.5gms.
The condition is excellent with no damage.

Nicely decorated Solid silver cigarette case dated Birmingham 1905, and made by Constantine & Floyd Ltd, it has scrolled design to the front and back, the front has a cartouche with the initials HC, the case opens using a springed side button. The case is bowed, the interior is gilted, and has the hallmarks on the lid and base, the case would I expect take 10 cigarettes.

The overall condition is superb with no dents or damage, it measures 8cm by 5cm and is 1.4cm deep, and weighs 48gms.

This superb silver cigarette case has been sold but see below for some more quality silver cigarette cases on offer.

Plain but good quality silver cigarette case assayed in Birmingham 1919, made by Duncan & Scobbie St Vincent Street, Glasgow.
This silver cigarette case measures 8cm square and 1.5cm wide, in total it weighs a good 96 grams.

The inside is very clean with a cigarette band holder on each side of the silver cigarette case, on the front of the case it has some initials but due to the ornate writing it’s hard to tell what the initials are, it could be a crest.

Art Deco Silver Engine Turned Cigarette Cases
I’m offering two excellent art deco silver engine turned cigarette cases the details are as follows:

The first silver cigarette case has the letter ‘G’ or might be a ‘C’ ornately inscribed in the top left hand corner, the left and right borders have a three diamond uniform design, the centre dashed design being again a uniform pattern, looks really stricking.

The marks on the silver cigarette case shows it was made by Thomas William Lack out of Hatton Gardens London, and assayed London 1931.

It measures 8.3cm square and 1cm in depth, the weight is 112 grams.

The second art deco silver cigarette case is again in excellent condition, it was made in 1945 by JR and assayed in Birmingham. The silver cigarette case measures 8cm square and about 1cm thick, the inside is very clean and has the cigarette holding strap. In the left hand top corner the letter ‘M’ has been inscribed, the pattern shows paralell lines with a diamond dash pattern in between.
